Candle animation

I can't be the only one who has wasted far too much time trawling through YouTube video's of student animations, only to end up feeling underwhelmed and rather disturbed about the amount of time that students DON'T spend in the classroom. But every now and then, some how the creative forces align somewhere in between the stealing roadside safety equipment and hugging the lecture theatre toilet to produce a little gem like this.

Alberto Seveso

Alberto Seveso's stunning photo manipulation and illustration technique creates these beautiful broken flowing images. His style is unmistakable and features extensively on the new album by FrankMusik "Complete Me"

Inspired Bicycles

Extreme sports athletes don't receive enough praise for their skills and most of all they are the most inventive and individual sports out there. Being able to adapt to their surroundings to create new and interesting accomplishments for themselves makes them very creative and brave to do what they do.

This latest video shows Danny MacAskill show off his talent whilst riding round the streets of Edinburgh for Inspired Bicycles. The video shows amazing stunts performed by Danny just by using the surroundings of the town like a giant playground.

Human Tetris

The east has been responsible for many giant leaps in human achievement, from gunpowder to Honda's humanoid robot "ASIMO". But if we look down the list of great inventions over time there is one that stands out head and shoulders above the rest which was not invented in the east. Yes, Tetris was a Russian invention by Alexey Pajitnov (who incidentally did not receive a penny) who in 1985 wrote the software. Since then an infamous history of legal battles over who owns the rights to the software continues to this day, however now a new version of the game has been indisputably developed by the Japanese. Thanks to good old youtube Human Tetris is available to the world and the world loves it. Look out for the solutions in the bottom left of the screen!

The Art of Kuang Hong

Kuang Kong was introduced to the medium of digital art in 2001 and has worked on improving his skills while working in the games industry. He is a prime example of just how unique the medium is as an art form and how far it has come. Hongs style has a strangly organic feel to it while never stepping too far from the digital artists smooth gradients and dynamic lighting. More of his art can be found on his CGHUB page where you will also find tutorials of techniques and interviews.

Kolmanskop

The town of Kolmanskop is located in southern Namibia and used to be a thriving small town developed from the 1908 discovery of diamonds in the area. By the 1920's Kolmanskop was discribed as the wealthiest town in Africa, however the diamond prices crashed soon after and residents began to leave just 8 years later with the last person leaving in 1956.
Now it has become a surreal ghost town where nature has forced its way into the turn of the centuary mansions leaving knee high waves of sand and yeilding a bizarre landscape that provides some uniquie photography.

More photo's of this amazing place can be found here.

Onwards by James Jarvis

Illustrator James Jarvis produced this animation of a character running through various landscapes, Nike loved the idea that they wanted to sponsor the short film. I really like the way it mixes from 2d to 3d and the detail of the locations yet the whole film looks very simple.

You can see more of James' work at his website.

Artist: Zoe-Lacchei

Zoe's studies in anatomy and Japanese culture are clearly evident in "The Geisha Project" paintings were she celebrates the contradictions and oddities a traditional Japan faces in the modern age. We love her refreshingly clean style which, according to her website is "a fusion of several traditional techniques and materials."
In April 2004 she has realized thirteen paintings for Marilyn Manson’s Gold Disc (Golden Age of the Grotesque) boosting her career in the USA and Europe. Her professional relationship with Manson continues, recently doing a painting for the Gold Disk for the album Eat Me, Drink Me.
Geisha Project’s limited edition giclee prints are available at the Fine Grime Gallery, UK.

Spend a small amount of time browsing this site and it soon becomes clear the enormous variety of styles and techniques used throughout the last century, from the beautifully painted 007 film posters to the highly worked on photographic images used to advertise the dark knight.
