A huge but detailed map of London has been found on one of the exterior walls of the Storyboards offices. The map coveres an area roughly the size of a table tennis table and includes a large amount of detail right up to the numbering and shape of buildings. It is unknown when or for what purpose the map was drawn up or even how the ink was put onto the wall. I don't think they realised how drastically things were going to change for the future, but the ideas they did come up with were probably outrageous for them and would certainly be crazy for 2009. Who knows maybe a designer will watch this video and really like their ideas, I might like a suit with a telephone in the middle though.

Now that satellite imagery has been around in the public domain for a while it is possible to create time-lapse videos to reveal the shocking truth about how we effect the earth as humans. Wired magazine has posted several of these time-lapse satellite images on there web site including a rather disturbing deforestation of Rondônia (a state of Brazil) which really puts into perspective the reasons for recycling.

Explosions in the Sky is Storyboards new favorite band, "Band of the Month" I guess you would call it. The Texas based bands unique intrimental tracks feature melodic narative journeys which are backed up by emotional live performances. The band is made up of three guitarists and one drummer, with no "leader" of the band and all members colaborating on each song, the sense of unity and respect is very apparent in the music.

Dismantling old signs and turning each letter into a lamp was the idea Character came up with. Once a letter was separated from the sign, it would have to be cleaned and LED lights added to create these cool lamps. The promotional pictures look amazing using the lamps to light up the environment in which it was placed.

The east has been responsible for many giant leaps in human achievement, from gunpowder to Honda's humanoid robot "ASIMO". But if we look down the list of great inventions over time there is one that stands out head and shoulders above the rest which was not invented in the east. Yes, Tetris was a Russian invention by Alexey Pajitnov (who incidentally did not receive a penny) who in 1985 wrote the software. Since then an infamous history of legal battles over who owns the rights to the software continues to this day, however now a new version of the game has been indisputably developed by the Japanese. Thanks to good old youtube Human Tetris is available to the world and the world loves it. Look out for the solutions in the bottom left of the screen!

Kolmanskop

The town of Kolmanskop is located in southern Namibia and used to be a thriving small town developed from the 1908 discovery of diamonds in the area. By the 1920's Kolmanskop was discribed as the wealthiest town in Africa, however the diamond prices crashed soon after and residents began to leave just 8 years later with the last person leaving in 1956.
Now it has become a surreal ghost town where nature has forced its way into the turn of the centuary mansions leaving knee high waves of sand and yeilding a bizarre landscape that provides some uniquie photography.

Zoe's studies in anatomy and Japanese culture are clearly evident in "The Geisha Project" paintings were she celebrates the contradictions and oddities a traditional Japan faces in the modern age. We love her refreshingly clean style which, according to her website is "a fusion of several traditional techniques and materials."
In April 2004 she has realized thirteen paintings for Marilyn Manson’s Gold Disc (Golden Age of the Grotesque) boosting her career in the USA and Europe. Her professional relationship with Manson continues, recently doing a painting for the Gold Disk for the album Eat Me, Drink Me.

Philips launch new 21:9 TV with "Carousel"

Phillips has launched the worlds first cinema proportion telly with the incredible fly by film, "Carousel". Directed by Adam Berg, this cinema master-piece takes you through a New York Style shoot out jam packed with cops and clowns, returning to the begining and able to loop the video really brings home the "Frozen Moment" idea. The TV itself isn't to bad either, with a 56" ultra wide display and all the top of the range phillips gimics included.
The Cinema campaign was developed at Tribal DDB Amsterdam by global creative director Neil Dawson, creative director/copywriter Chris Baylis, art directors Mariota Essery and Andrew Ferguson, copywriters Carla Madden, agency producers Jeroen Jedeloo and Iwona Echt.

This would have been an amazing opportunity for any Sigur Ros fan to see them play such a small cafe in Paris with hardly any audience. Shot by Vincent Moon and Chryde who started up the website La Blogotheque mainly to share and film music in a different way. They are mainly famous for their "Take Away Show's" usually a band playing acoustically in either a cool or unusual location with only one take. The results of good camera work make the video look very beautiful and have attracted thousands of viewers, but this is also due to the musicians they get to film.

Tilt-Shift Miniture Faking

By distorting real life images in photoshop the artist can simulate the effects of tilt-shift photography. The photo's are taken from a high angle and then the focus is distorted to replicate the shallow depth of field normally encountered with macro lenses. Colours are then enhanced in response to the brightly coloured paint used in miniature model painting and the contrast raised to produce the harder, darker shadows that miniatures create. If anyone remembers reading this book when they were younger then you should without a doubt go see the film which is due to release later on this year. Writer and director of the film Spike Jonze has adapted his own style to this film, as an early cut was screened in 2008 which made the film look dark, this received mix reviews causing a re cut and in some cases a re shoot. But the trailer has finally been released and from my point of view looks very exciting with beautiful cinematography.

The latest Intuos graphic pad from Wacom has more express buttons and higher levels of sensitivity as well as a pen closely resembling that of the Intuos 3. But it's the new ipod style wheel to replace the touch strips that seems to be the killer feature, which should work really well with CS4's rotate tool or as a zoom toggle. Intuos 4 also comes with a completely re-designed surface to give the user greater ergonomic freedom of movement and more advanced configuration options. Wacom have now launched details on their site but as yet there is no shipping date. Not even apple knew when it was due to go on sale. Contrail was designed for cyclists to leave a thin line of chalk on the road to mark out safe cycle routes for fellow cyclists to follow and as the lines get thicker this shows cars the path. The design was created by Pepin Gelardi who's main priority was for the safety of cyclists but had turned an ordinary push bike into an art tool allowing the rider to create their own lines and for others to add over making the street one giant canvas.

Rounding up sheep to create moving images is a big and amazing job, but strapping LED lights to them some people might not see it in the correct way. I know if I was a sheep I'd enjoy doing something different rather than my usual daily chores of standing in a field and run away from a dog every now and then.

360° Panorama

This cool 360° Panorama photo is a combination of lots of photos taken from three different angles from a tripod. Top, Middle and below and then using autostitch to stitch all your photos together, take it to Photoshop then use polar distorted. The last few touches you have to do is take one of the floor to fill in the middle hole and then just clean up through using the "Clone Tool" in Photoshop. Result...a beautiful looking photo.

Brian Donnelly more commonly known as "KAWS" has recently opened up an exhibition till 4th April 2009. KAWS has become a very successful artist growing up in New Jersey producing graffiti work on billboards to becoming a well sort after man to collaberate with. Many designers and clothing brands such as Marc Jacob, Comme Des Garcons and Nike have asked him to work with them producing signature designs on products. Not only in the fashion industry but in the Music industry has KAWS become succesful, recently producing artwork for Kanye West's new album "808s & Heartbreak" which was for a limited run.

KAWS has become so successful with his own work due to the way he keeps his toys and clothing line limited making it a must have collectable by people mainly in the underground urban culture. KAWS style of work is easily recognizable, producing large scale paintings with bold bright colours.

Subject matter?: Illustrated maps, Food food and lifestyle related items as well as figures and diagrams for educational publishers.

Target Audience?: I adapt my style to my audience, wether I'm working for India and the US or local authorities and ad agencies.

Favorite Software?: Most defiantly Photoshop! I can do so much with it and feel lost without it. I also use illustrator and Indesign when required.

Art in your free-time?: I love sketching. Whenever I travel I take a sketchbook and return with loads of material. I also document the changes taking place in east London as it is being developed.
